WHY IT'S TIME FOR ME TO WRITE

I’M NOT REALLY A WRITER, BUT IT’S TIME THAT I BEGIN POURING OUT WHAT HAS FILLED MY CUP

You’ve probably heard some variation on the phrase, “those who can, do - and those who can’t, consult.” I’m sure there is a version out there being quoted that harps on bloggers rather than consultants. For many years I have been one of those who downplay the productivity of those who devote their time to writing rather than doing. So why this blog… why me… why now?

I can’t say for sure what the answers to those questions are, but I can say that I’ve been pushing hard against the feeling and the encouragement from others to blog. (Michael Hyatt can be thanked for that!) I still don’t feel like I’ve learned enough to be qualified to write and publish anything with my stamp on it. Then every now and then, either because someone asked me or because I’m just thinking about it, I realized I’ve been doing some sort of ministry in the church for 27 years (20 years at the same church). That fact alone far from qualifies me to write with any authority. But if I could write & post some of the lessons of leadership, ministry, programming and spiritual formation - it would be far more beneficial for me than to anyone who may happen upon this site to read. However, if you could be someone to learn from my mistakes, or take an idea we’ve been playing with and make it even better… then I suppose this blog is worth it.

A challenge from a pastor that I really respect and learn so much from, Andy Stanley said in a message on relational mentoring, that if you’re over 40 years of age (that’d be me… but just barely), then you owe it to society to begin dipping out of your treasure chest of experience, information, knowledge and life experience and begin pouring it all out to someone younger than you. I, for one have been keeping my life & work experience to myself far too long.

So begins a journey of pouring out… some of this may and will be messy. Most of this is for me as a way to clarify what I think, how I act, and why I do. If you can add to this, then I’d love to learn from you.
